Quick Look: Mystery Ranch Gunfighter
Adam Teeter
An urban EDC pack is a tough thing to find. It needs to be sleek and trim to get through crowds and trains without snagging. It needs to have sufficient capacity and expansion ability to carry standard gear and allow for those unexpected trips to the grocery store. It should have organization faculties to present the gear you need on a regular basis with speed and familiarity. Often, it will need to protect a laptop also.
The Gunfighter from Mystery Ranch approaches filling this role perfectly. It is small and svelte at 22 liters volume, but includes a built in Stick-It to handle overloads. The Futura Harness is possibly the best in the industry. It's laptop compartment is decently padded, raised off the bottom of the pack and externally accessible. The organization could be better, but there is enough to keep the pack mostly functional. The little hidden pockets under the PALS fields are even accessible while the pack is worn. It's discontinued now, but if you can find one and the organization suits you, it's a great little EDC pack. If you like the looks of this but do not need the laptop accommodations, check out the Mystery Ranch Crest.
Carry on everyone and God bless you!

Low profile front. The Teeter Pouch from OV Innovations is not included.
Both sides have a generous 4x4 PALS field.
This is one area MR could have done better. This is just a large pocket with no organization. A few slots or some loop material would have gone a long way to make this pack better laid out.
The laptop and tablet sleeves at the rear of the pack. A 15" MBP is no problem here.
A little triangular pouch sits at the top under the main zipper - a great spot for a glasses case or compact camera.
The legendary Futura Harness. Also visible is the external laptop access zipper.
One of the hidden pockets.
A Maxpedition Mini Organizer will fit here.
